As part of his commitment to defending animal rights, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced this Tuesday that the Public Prosecutor’s Office will apply criminal and economic sanctions to those who commit acts of cruelty against animals.
Among the sanctioned behaviors are the deprivation of basic needs such as food, water, shelter, hygiene, space, and mobility, considered forms of abuse that violate the integrity and life of animals.
Established Penalties:
– Prison terms of 2 to 5 years for animal abuse.
– Fines between 1,000 and 2,000 Tax Units (TU).
– Aggravating Factor: If the crime is recorded and disseminated digitally, the sentence will increase to 3 to 6 years in prison, plus fines of 600 to 1,000 TU.
Since his administration began in August 2017, Saab has promoted active animal protection policies, highlighting educational campaigns, veterinary care operations, and legal proceedings against those responsible for abuse. These measures strengthen the Venezuelan legal framework on the matter.
