Venezuela elects 138 Indigenous Councilors in 8 States

The Vice President of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Carlos Quintero, reported that 35% of Indigenous communities participated in the municipal council elections. During a meeting with VTV (Venezolana de Television, State-owned TV station), the electoral authority explained that this process will appoint 138 representatives in 69 municipalities across eight Venezuelan states:

«6,598 spokespersons were elected and are expressing their will today in 88 voting centers with 111 polling stations,» stated Quintero. He appealed to the remaining delegates: «We invite you to come to the centers to elect your representatives. Tomorrow we will announce the elected councilors in the 69 municipal councils.»

The CNE representative confirmed that the election is proceeding normally with significant participation. He reminded voters they had until 6:00 p.m. to exercise their right, after which «we will begin the counting and totaling of the votes.»

«Participation has been exceptional, discussing needs and consolidating this great celebration for our indigenous peoples,» emphasized Quintero. He reiterated that assisted voting is applied according to regulations for exceptional cases, guaranteeing inclusion in the process.
