President Nicolás Maduro addressed foreign journalists during the event with supporters celebrating the triumph in 285 mayoralties during the municipal elections on July 27.
The president urged the international media to «take note» of the results, questioning their coverage of Venezuela. He reminded that this event coincided with the first anniversary of his reelection in 2024, the 71st birthday of Hugo Chávez, and the first Popular Youth Consultation.
The head of state gave a historical overview of the municipal election results since 2000, highlighting how the ruling party increased its territorial presence from 124 initial mayoralties to the current 285, compared to 49 for the opposition.
He recalled key moments such as the referendum of 2004, the riots of 2017, and what he called the «fascist ambush» of 2024, emphasizing that the Chavismo prevailed in all of these episodes: «The people taught them a historical lesson,» affirmed Maduro regarding the latest elections, in which the ruling party won control of 85% of the municipalities.
The president concluded his speech by calling for a deeper participatory democracy through popular consultations and the 7T Plan, underscoring the importance of «understanding our history in order to build the future.» Thousands of supporters attended the event in Miraflores, celebrating what they described as the consolidation of the Bolivarian project after 26 years of government.
