President Nicolás Maduro called on the 50 opposition mayors to work together for the benefit of the country. From the people’s balcony (at Miraflores Palace in Caracas), during the commemoration of the first anniversary of the popular victory on July 28, 2024, and the birthday of Commander Hugo Chávez, he stated:
«I have sent you a message and I extend my hands to you as a worker, as a man of the people, so that, as president, we may work together on a single plan.»
The president invited mayors, governors, and Communal Councils to join forces for Venezuela’s progress, emphasizing the importance of respect, tolerance, and dialogue.
«Each from their own space, but with a common goal,» he pointed out. He also announced that the Federal Government Council will be held next week, with the participation of the 24 governors and 335 elected mayors.
At this meeting, strategies will be discussed and the Seven Transformations Plan (7T) will be presented, along with the Concrete Action Agendas for the 5,338 Communal Districts. Maduro emphasized that all mayors, regardless of political affiliation, must commit to their communities and govern in direct contact with the people:
«You have to activate, visit the neighborhoods, and work alongside the people,» he stated. He also emphasized that July 27th represented the consolidation of «the victory of institutionality, legality, peace, and Venezuela’s right to a future.»
He called for overcoming fascism and violence, emphasizing that the country needs «work, prosperity, and unity.» «Enough with divisions and violence; Venezuela demands progress and unity,» as concluded the president.
