Diosdado Cabello, leader of the PSUV (United Socialist Party of Venezuela), denounced the European Parliament “for behaving like a mafia-like structure» by including Venezuela—subject to an economic blockade—on a list of nations suspected of money laundering, while ignoring statements by the Argentinean President Javier Milei, who promotes accepting capital without investigating its origin.
On his «Con El Mazo Dando” program, Cabello questioned the legitimacy of the European Parliament, describing it as “a space occupied by political waste» and individuals associated with illegal operations. He rejected the organization’s targeting of Venezuela, whose financial capacity is restricted by sanctions, in contrast to Milei’s policy of allowing uncontrolled money flows in Argentina.
He asserted that the Venezuelan state does not engage in money laundering, as its banking institutions are isolated from the international system due to the embargo.
Regarding Colombia, Cabello expressed skepticism that justice will be served for former President Álvaro Uribe, who was implicated in alleged crimes during his administration. «Justice in Colombia? I don’t think so,» he stated, mentioning the increased protection afforded the judge in his case following an alleged poisoning attempt. He recalled that, in a previous trial, nine of the twelve witnesses against Uribe died under suspicious circumstances, without conclusive investigations.
He also indicated that the verdict against Uribe would be announced on July 28, a date he linked to key events for Venezuela: the local election results, the first year of Nicolás Maduro’s administration, the birthday of Hugo Chávez, and now, «the conviction of the Mataraife» (an epithet directed at Uribe).
