Head of State Nicolás Maduro accused this Monday international organizations, in particular the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, of remaining inactive and complicit in the alleged kidnapping of Venezuelans in the United States and El Salvador.
During his «Con Maduro+” program, the president highlighted the work of Pope Leo XIV and the Catholic Church in defending the rights of those affected, after receiving no response from the UN: «We sent a letter through Dr. Jorge Rodríguez, who delivered it to the Apostolic Nuncio in Caracas, Monsignor Ortega,» he detailed.
The president denounced the kidnapping of 31 Venezuelan children in the US and the disappearance of 252 migrant workers in El Salvador, whom he described as deprived of legal defense and living in conditions similar to a «concentration camp.» He valued the position of the Cardinal of San Salvador, who demanded judicial guarantees and family contact for those affected:
«The Catholic Church is acting to rescue the children and return them to their families,» he affirmed, thanking Pope Leo XIV for his moral support.
Criticism of Volker Türk:
President Maduro rejected the lack of action by High Commissioner Volker Türk, accusing him of ignoring both cases. «I asked him to investigate in El Salvador or send a delegate, but he did nothing. Now there are 31 children kidnapped, and he still hasn’t acted,» he declared.
The Venezuelan dignitary attributed this inaction to the fact that Turk «is an agent of the US and Europe at the UN, destined to protect Western interests and silence crimes against Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran.»
