The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, emphasized that the country is advancing in the implementation of the project promoted by leader Hugo Chávez. He stressed that the upcoming elections will reflect a complete democracy,» explaining that this is not limited to the right to vote, but also encompasses the right to participate in taking decisions.
Jorge Rodríguez, head of the Unified Command of the Revolution, recalled that in the elections of next July 27, voters will be able to elect not only their local representatives, but also projects aimed at youth. He also insisted that future mayors and councilors must work closely with communities.
Rodríguez announced that, to keep cities clean, the posting of election posters in public spaces will not be permitted. He criticized the opposition’s campaigns, calling them «right-wing marketing» strategies, and contrasted this approach with the participatory democracy model promoted by the Great Patriotic Pole Simón Bolívar (GPPSB), which he described as a permanent system of consultation and collective work.
During the event, several GPPSB candidates in municipalities (of Caracas) that historically are of an opposition majority, such as Baruta, El Hatillo, and Chacao, presented their campaign plans, focused on direct contact with communities and solving urgent problems. Among them, Raiza Chacón (Chacao), José Alvarado (El Hatillo), Francisco González (Baruta), and Diógenes Lara (Sucre) highlighted their commitment to citizen participation and addressing popular demands.
For her part, Carmen Meléndez, candidate for Mayor of Caracas, reiterated her commitment to listening to the needs of the capital to transform it into a city that serves the people, prioritizing effective solutions through close collaboration with the communities.
The GPPSB’s approach promotes a «direct, permanent, and participatory» democracy, in contrast to what they describe as a bourgeois system based on unfulfilled promises.
