The Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, held strategic meetings with authorities from Congo and Nigeria to review areas of energy cooperation. These meetings, held in Vienna, Austria, are part of a work agenda aimed at strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations in the sectors of hydrocarbons and forest resources.
During her stay in Vienna, the also Minister of People’s Power for Hydrocarbons met with her counterparts from Congo, Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua, Minister of Hydrocarbons of Congo, and Heineken Lokpobiri from Nigeria. The discussions focused on promoting joint projects that benefit both peoples, especially in the energy sector. Venezuela and Congo reviewed the progress of their Joint Cooperation Agreement, while outlining plans with Nigeria to expand collaboration in gas production and other key sectors.
21 Agreements between Venezuela and Nigeria:
Venezuela and Nigeria have strengthened their ties by signing 21 agreements in areas such as communications, defense, air transport, and the fight against money laundering. These agreements reflect the mutual interest in diversifying cooperation beyond oil, consolidating a strategic relationship between the two nations.
Venezuela, Congo, and Nigeria are all active members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), where they promote unity and integration among nations of the Global South. These multilateral spaces allow for the coordination of energy policies and the defense of common interests in the international hydrocarbon market.
Venezuela and APPO Strengthen Energy Cooperation:
In another key meeting, Vice President Rodríguez met with Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), to assess the strengthening of energy alliances. Venezuela, which joined APPO as an observer in 2021, seeks to promote joint initiatives that foster a more just and multipolar world.
The meetings highlighted the commitment of Venezuela and the African countries to foster energy complementarity and sustainable development. These agreements not only benefit the economies involved but also strengthen South-South cooperation in a global context marked by the energy transition.
With these actions, Venezuela reaffirms its position as a key player in the global energy sector, strengthening strategic alliances with Africa and promoting a cooperation model based on equity and mutual benefit. These initiatives open up new opportunities for investment and joint development in hydrocarbons and alternative energies.
The meetings in Vienna demonstrate the dynamism of Venezuelan energy diplomacy, which seeks to consolidate alliances with African countries to promote shared projects. With a vision focused on integration and global justice, Venezuela continues advancing in its international cooperation strategy in the oil sector and beyond.
