The Chancellor of the Republic, Yván Gil, during a speech at the 79th Plenary Meeting of the United Nations (UN), condemned on behalf of Venezuela the veto issued by the United States (US) on the attacks in the Gaza Strip, which in his opinion «constitutes a sign of complicity.»
«We request immediate humanitarian access. (…) We condemn the veto issued by the United States, which constitutes a sign of complicity. It repeatedly allows attacks in Palestine, with deliberate weapons that undermine peace and stability, giving a green light to unleash more violence,» he stated.
The also Minister of Foreign Affairs has also strongly criticized the United States’ use of the veto in the UN Security Council, which prevents the adoption of resolutions demanding an immediate ceasefire. He asserted that Venezuela condemns Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip and calls them «criminal,» while denouncing what it considers a «genocide» against the Palestinian people.

Gil noted that more than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed, «while more than 125,000 have been injured.» «All have been traumatized and forcibly displaced. Schools that should be shelters have been bombed. Services such as water and electricity have been indefinitely interrupted. The right to life is being treated with cynicism,» emphasized the Chancellor.
Regarding the events unfolding between Iran and Israel, the Foreign Minister called for an «immediate» ceasefire:
“We call for an immediate ceasefire. We call on the international community to compel Israel to adhere to international law. To international humanitarian law. (…) Put aside your political calculations,” he emphasized.
Chancellor Gil urged the international community to take the necessary actions to end Israel’s impunity.
He also urged the international community to take the necessary actions to end the cycle of impunity committed by Israel.
In this regard, he called “to redouble all international efforts to effectively and immediately advance a necessary process of accountability for all the crimes committed by Israel, the occupying power, against the peoples of Palestine, Lebanon, and other nationalities,” while noting that “the world expects all relevant mechanisms of international justice to play a responsible role in ending the prevailing cycle of impunity that has only emboldened the Israeli regime to perpetuate itself over time.”
He recalled that “there is no legal, moral, or political justification for the indiscriminate killing of civilians, including women and children; nor is there any legal or moral basis to block United Nations efforts to prevent further bloodshed and end the blockade of the Gaza Strip.”
“The time has come for the United Nations Security Council to adopt a resolution demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire, respected by all parties, that allows for consistent and safe humanitarian access… We also call on the international community to adopt effective measures to compel Israel, the occupying power, to adhere to international law.”
The head of Diplomatic Relations expressed Venezuela’s determination “not to allow the violence unleashed by Israel to become normalized” and demanded “once again that the government of the United States of America, in its capacity as a permanent member of the Security Council, put aside its political calculations… being complicit is not an option.”
