«Venezuela rejects the insolent statements by the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Carla Barnett, who acts as an Exxon Mobil employee and does not represent the voice of all CARICOM countries,» declared Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez through her Telegram channel.
Rodríguez reaffirmed that the territorial dispute over the Guayana Esequiba must be resolved through the Geneva Agreement, and therefore rejected any external intervention in the process: «There is no room for interference from anyone! The sun of Venezuela rises in the Essequibo!»
The CARICOM secretary general stated in a statement that «the border dispute with Venezuela remains a constant concern,» which Caracas interprets as an attempt to impose a vision outside of established diplomatic mechanisms.
During the gubernatorial and legislative elections, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, reiterated his position on the territory and celebrated the victory of candidate Neil Villamizar, who was elected by the people of Guayana Esequiba, as announced this Sunday by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The head of state emphasized the importance of guaranteeing full rights to the inhabitants of Guayana Esequiba and offered budgetary support to strengthen the Venezuelan presence in the region. Therefore, the Bolivarian nation maintains its position that sovereignty over Guayana Esequiba must be defended through established diplomatic mechanisms, with the goal of ensuring recognition of the territory as an integral part of the country.
