Head of State will present proposal to reform the electoral system

«I am going to present to the new National Assembly a new electoral system of the communal circuits.» The objective is to guarantee a permanent consultation system that ensures the constant participation of citizens. To achieve this, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, proposed reengineering the current electoral system.

He emphasized that this consultation system must be permanent in the territory: «Where the human being lives, where the family is. It is there, in that territory, where the permanent consultation system will be created. It is Chávez’s idea from when we met him in 1992,» he told the media from the surroundings of the Simón Rodríguez National Bolivarian Ecological School in the El Valle parish (Caracas).

«Venezuela needs to modernize, expand, and adapt the new political system to build its electoral system. On that I believe, and that’s why I’m going to work on it,» he emphasized.

He also emphasized that he has held talks with the Constitutional Reform Commission and has agreed to prepare a more inclusive, open, and dialogue-based consultation and debate process with a longer duration, and thus submit the Constitutional Reform bill to the new National Assembly in January 2026.
