From the Simón Bolívar Hall (of Miraflores Palace), the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, instructed that by June of this year, the vessel approved at the Presidential Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), held in 2024, for intra-ALBA trade must be operational, with the goal of guaranteeing food sovereignty:
«ALBA-TCP must, by June, have activated the vessel approved at the presidential summit for intra-ALBA trade. Furthermore, the large ALBA aircraft for cargo and trade must be ready,” he emphasized, referring to issues related to the AgroAlba plans.
Along these lines, the Venezuelan President emphasized that the countries that make up ALBA-TCP must continue joining forces to further consolidate the regional integration platform in Latin America and the Caribbean, which emphasizes solidarity, complementarity, justice, and cooperation.
He also emphasized that both nations have considered the production of foodstuffs such as rice, meat, chicken, milk, beans, among others, through the AgroAlba project, in order to continue exporting to nations like the People’s Republic of China and further open markets.
These agreements are also expected to facilitate intra-ALBA trade, as well as strengthen the AgroAlba project, a key initiative that seeks to transform the agricultural, livestock, and poultry sectors and productive investment.
Air Transportation System:
Furthermore, President Nicolás Maduro announced that the ALBA aircraft must also be ready for interconnect the region, because these initiatives would not only facilitate trade and tourism, but would also lay the foundations for multidimensional integration that prioritizes people over private interests.
These actions have been promoted by the Venezuelan President at ALBA-TCP to materialize concrete regional transportation projects and advance toward economic, productive, and commercial union among the member countries.
In context, during the 12th Extraordinary ALBA-TCP Summit held in 2024, the Venezuelan head of state explained that, thanks to resources from the ALBA Bank, work is being done on a mechanism for the purchase of airplanes and ships to facilitate the transportation of goods and products from the regional bloc’s member countries: «All within the framework of strengthening integration in transportation matters,» he stated on that occasion.
Similarly, as proposed at previous summits, he stated that work should be done to establish AgroAlba, a space for agricultural production and exchange between countries.
«We are already acquiring the first refrigerated food transport ship and a commercial cargo plane for transporting agricultural products,» he said in this regard.
