Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez presented to the National Assembly (AN) the Economic Emergency Decree signed by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, on April 8, during the activation of the Telecommunications and New Technologies Engine.
In an extraordinary session, Rodríguez emphasized that April 2 was a date humanity will never forget «because the United States government launched an unprecedented global trade war that will reformat and reengineer all economic relations on the planet.»
«That’s why the head of state denounced that they have killed the World Trade Organization. The very organizations that served to shape international trade relations are now, with absolute certainty, mortally wounded by a tariff policy that undermines the upper limits,» she added.
Likewise, she added that if the people of the United States can know anything, it’s that the main loser in this tariff war is the American people themselves: «That’s why we say it’s irrational, but when you analyze what’s happening in the United States, the deep fiscal deficit, the external deficit, it’s no longer tolerable, certainly, financing it, hitting the pockets of workers.»
She also emphasized that this «insane tariff policy was applied to all countries, allies and non-allies, who were affected by this policy. This tariff policy changes the course of international trade relations, but it will also change the course of financial relations, as well as international geopolitics; everything is intertwined.»
She also noted that this tariff war against China, the world’s main trading partner, «affects the international economy, and that’s why we are on the brink of what some analysts have called a potential global recession. The global economy is already suffering. Oil markets have been impacted and affected; crude oil prices have already fallen by over 30%”.
In the case of Venezuela, this is compounded by what extremists had demanded, which was the withdrawal of licenses so that companies such as Chevron could not produce in the country and could not pay for the oil they import from Venezuela: «This was a loud demand, and extremists have played a leading role in harming the Venezuelan economy and the people. They are facing an economic war against the country.»
She affirmed that oil and gas production in Venezuela is maintained and is in the process of recovery, all thanks to Venezuela’s own efforts. In this regard, she emphasized that President Nicolás Maduro has consistently denounced the unjust economic attacks against Venezuela, warning that these attacks could occur against any nation. This became evident on April 2, when the United States declared an economic war against the entire world.
