The Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) unanimously ratified Jorge Rodríguez, President of the National Assembly (NA), as Vice President of the movement for another three years. The decision was made during the Fourth Conference of this Parliamentary Network held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The member parliaments decided to renew the mandate of their current president and vice presidents to strengthen the institutional continuity of the organization. This extends the leadership originally elected at the 2022 Baku Conference, chaired by Sahiba Gafarova, President of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, who will continue to lead the Parliamentary Network.
Just like Jorge Rodríguez, Fouzi Altahir Rahumah Salim, First Vice President of the Libyan House of Representatives (African Group), and Ali Faysal, Vice President of the Palestinian National Council (Asian Group), will extend their terms of office, with the aim of consolidating the progress made in parliamentary cooperation and defending the principles of this Movement.
The decision, supported by consultations with the parliaments of the member states, seeks to strengthen multilateral dialogue and collaboration among non-aligned countries, ensuring the operational effectiveness of the Parliamentary Network and the development of its institutional framework.
This Network has a President and three Vice Presidents, based on the same principles as the NAM and the United Nations Charter.
This President and Vice Presidents are part of the Network’s bodies, which also include the Conference, which brings together all the delegations of the member parliaments; the Bureau, the Secretariat, and the Standing Committees on Political, Economic, and Political Affairs. Social and Humanitarian Affairs; and Methodology.
The Venezuelan delegation participating in the Fourth Conference of the Parliamentary Network was comprised of the Second Vice President of the Legislative Branch, América Pérez, and Representatives Orlando Camacho and Roy Daza.
