The president of the National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents, Anahi Arizmendi, appeared before the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to denounce the application of the Alien Enemy Law:
«That law, on which the US government based its deportation of 238 Venezuelans to El Salvador, violates human rights and criminalizes migration,» she explained.
Arizmendi asked UNICEF to address Donald Trump’s order to detain all Venezuelans 14 years of age and older, which leaves the child and adolescent population defenseless by attempting to involve them in criminal organizations and prosecute them.
The complaint also includes testimony from human rights organizations in the United States, demonstrating the ongoing abuses committed against children and adolescents in detention centers.
