The Vice President of the Republic reported that in the last few hours «many truths have come to light» and referred to the corruption scandal of the extremist opposition involved in the embezzlement of funds at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
She also assured that Venezuela «is suffering from actions financed by USAID.»
During the Extraordinary Congress of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), she highlighted: «they used US funds to overthrow governments and what we are seeing are the aggressions against Venezuela financed from that agency and by extremists such as Leopoldo López, Juan Guaidó, Carlos Vecchio, Julio Borges who were financed to overthrow the Venezuelan Government.»
She also stressed that, despite the effects of the «criminal blockade» imposed on the country, Venezuelans have shown a remarkable capacity for «resistance and creativity» to overcome adversity.
She also mentioned President Nicolás Maduro’s efforts to implement an economic recovery plan and called for strengthening strategic sectors such as agribusiness, tourism and oil production.
During her speech, Rodríguez recalled the «devastating impact» that the COVID-19 pandemic and the blockade have had on the Venezuelan economy, noting that, despite receiving significantly lower income compared to previous years, the people have managed to resist and find ways to innovate.
