President Maduro calls on TikTok to resolve viral challenges in Venezuela

In his “Con Maduro De Repente(Suddenly with Maduro) multiplatform, President Nicolás Maduro announced that the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela issued an official summons to TikTok representatives in Mexico:

We hope that you come to Venezuela soon to reach a legal, constitutional and juridical solution to the situation that has arisen due to the ‘Challengers’ or challenges transmitted through this social network, declared the head of state.

The head of state added: “I have precisely the official summons that the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice has made to TikTok Latin America. It was delivered today in Mexico City by our ambassador Francisco Arias Cárdenas. I hope that in the next few hours the representatives of TikTok in Venezuela will be there”.

The President also highlighted the importance of control for security on digital platforms and reported on the actions that other countries have taken, mentioning the recent approval in Parliament of a pioneering law in Australia to strengthen security.

Under this new law, the Australian government said that technology companies must take “reasonable measures” to prevent underage users from accessing social media services or, otherwise, they will face fines of almost 50 million Australian dollars (about US$ 32 million).
