Venezuela consolidates its position in the Global South in communication and technology matters

On the occasion of the First Summit of Media and Experts from the Global South, Venezuela debated with more than 160 delegates, with a view to bringing to different trenches the responsibility of traditional, digital or emerging media to give a debate that has to do with the ethics of journalism in the global south.

This information was provided by Minister (Freddy) Náñez during the ”Con Maduro Live De Repente” (Suddenly Live with Maduro) program, in which he also added that this meeting was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil; where he reported that were discussed four cardinal points that will be developed in this way:

– First: how to jointly overcome the narratives that the West imposes from the imperial North, in the countries of the Global South, since they are «the owners of the main traditional media and communication chains.»

– Second: the need for balanced development to overcome the technological asymmetries that exist in the Global South.

– Third: the need to create training systems for children and adolescents in the Global South, for the efficient and ethical use of new Communication Technologies (ICT).

– Fourth: the proposal of a permanent group that will be in charge of articulating the public media that are working in resistance, and a network for building better ecosystems, in terms of communication.

We have been making a media revolution for some time, anchored in the transformations that you, the founding generation (…) achieved with the Constitution”, said the head of the ministerial portfolio, referring to the impulse that Venezuela has had since the mandate of Commander Hugo Chávez.

As a complement to the communication and technological advances, in addition to the alliance with the People’s Republic of China, he said that the Asian nation is an extremely generous country with its knowledge and the progress that all areas have had from the communication point of view; This is why it is proposed to remain at the forefront of the construction of new technologies that are associated with artificial intelligence and aimed at «creating communication that is much cleaner, less toxic, more in tune with the truth and respectful of citizens.»
