The Attorney General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, offered a series of statements on Thursday regarding the criminal case of the former presidential candidate, Edmundo González. Regarding this, he recalled that this Wednesday, he met with José Vicente Haro, González Urrutia’s lawyer, who confirmed to the Public Ministry that he advised his client to go to the judicial entity, however, people outside the legal team pressured him not to attend:
“If you are innocent, why didn’t you come to the first summons, second summons, third summons?” the head of the criminal court asked González Urrutia, who sent a letter to Tarek William Saab to affirm that “he did not know why he was being investigated,” despite the fact that the MP previously published the criminal charges attributed to him, including crimes of usurpation of functions, forgery of public documents, instigation to disobedience of laws, conspiracy, information crimes, association to commit a crime.
Tarek William Saab then assured that 99.99% of the people summoned to the Public Prosecutor’s Office attend the summons: “This marks a very negative precedent in Venezuelan law, here any Venezuelan can be summoned as has happened,” he declared. On the other hand, he reaffirmed that if Gonzalez recognizes Venezuelan institutions, “he reaffirms the conviction that exists in the country” that the MP works for the benefit of the country’s justice system, and that he must appear before said institution.
He deceived his voters:
“We see that this minority sector tries to place itself in a supernatural atmosphere, and they try to see us as their useful fools,” assured the Attorney General of the Republic, who also pointed out that Gonzalez’s voters were deceived, and that said sector held fraudulent primary elections, in addition to recalling his lack of recognition of the presidential elections of July 28.
He also recalled that in previous speeches, he cited the cases of “figures who have been presidents and former presidents, who have gone to the public courts of their countries,” and exemplified his statement with the lawsuits issued against the former US president, Donald Trump.
