MP investigates death threats against prosecutor who is handling the Edmundo González case

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported this Thursday that the Public Ministry (MP) opened a criminal investigation to determine the responsibility of those who have threatened to kill the prosecutor who is handling the case of the fraudulent minutes published by the extreme right wing.

At a press conference, Saab said: “I must say that a criminal investigation was opened against those who, using emails and WhatsApp messages, have threatened the prosecutor who is handling the investigation, these are hate crimes.”

We have the expertise of 400 messages, between emails and WhatsApp messages. Who are they to do this? To expose his family to ridicule?, or are these not hate crimes?” he said.

Likewise, the Attorney General stated that “they have escalated to launch a cascade of threats, but here nobody gives up, nor there is any fear.”

These statements were made after detailing the meeting he had with Edmundo González’s lawyer on Wednesday, who also sent a letter to the prosecutor in which he denies his participation in the publication of the minutes and declares himself innocent of the accusations.

Since everything failed them completely, now nobody did anything, (they say ) “I did nothing, I saw nothing”. That is what the letter sums up. That is what the lawyer adds. Within the communication it occurs that Mr. González Urrutia takes justice into his own hands, he becomes the court, prosecutor and defense and says he is innocent, but he did not attend the summons and sends a letter, because (he says) he does not know for what reason he is being summoned,” Saab pointed out.
