Reform for life imprisonment will mark a precedent in the history of Venezuela

In the Digital Zone segment, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, highlighted that the reform to the Magna Carta to insert the judicial penalty of life imprisonment for those who commit the crimes of corruption and treason, is an initiative that will set a precedent in the history of Venezuela, a proposal that arises in light of the recent corruption plot linked to PDVSA-Cripto and reflects a continuous effort by the national government to eradicate this scourge at all levels:

It is necessary to adapt the laws to punish the scourge of corruption and for this it is necessary to strengthen the punitive capacity of the State, to generate the effect of deterrence, so that whoever intends to do so, thinks about it three times, because it may end up rotting. in jail,” he warned. “This is the proposal of a man who is in charge of the State and who is committed to the people to fight with everything against immorality and corruption,” he added.

In his opinion, it is a difficult issue, it is an acute issue, a moral issue. He reported that international agreements prevent the country from establishing the death penalty.

He recalled that he personally directed all these investigations relating to the corruption plots so far revealed. “I thank Sebin, DGCIM, National Anti-Corruption Police and especially the Public Ministry, prosecutor Tarek William Saab for his work in the investigations of this case.”

Maduro also highlighted the significant progress of the investigations at the level of discovery with evidence, irrefutable testimony of the responsibility of the highest hierarchs “that we have captured and who are imprisoned and who must be punished with the maximum penalties established in the Penal Code. from Venezuela. May fall whoever has to fall, whoever it is,” he stated.

He announced that they are currently on the trail of “the bulk of what was stolen.” He revealed that at this very moment “new detainees are falling” involved in the plot.

He recalled that all the latest captured in the PDVSA-Cripto corruption plot have revealed evidence and names. “They had formulas to hide money in crypto assets, something that was created for good, as was the superintendence of cryptocurrencies, it was the lair of the mafia, of bandits, of traitors while we gave birth, sanctioned, persecuted, threatened and they robbing the people.

Maduro revealed that he became physically ill while investigating corruption at PDVSA. “I went through the heartbreaking pain, I overcame it, I healed all my wounds from that pain and now what I have is indignation, and I want all those who have to fall to fall and I want exemplary justice. May fall whoever has to fall,” he insisted.

He explained that for this reason he made the proposal to the people to impose the maximum penalties possible according to customary constitutional law.

He highlighted that international agreements on International Rights prohibit Venezuela from activating the death penalty, which is why he proposes strengthening the punitive capacity of the State through life imprisonment.

Maduro clarified that this proposal must necessarily go to a referendum because any reform to the Magna Carta must go to a popular consultation. “It is mandatory, the people are the ones who decide.”

Penalizing corruption with life imprisonment reflects the sentiment of the people.

No to impunity:

The First Combatant Woman, Cilia Flores, believes that the constitutional amendment to include life imprisonment will prevent impunity for atrocious crimes:

This proposal is made at a time of everything that is happening. It has never happened that the crime of corruption and other serious crimes that threaten the stability of the country, against the people, were attacked with such force.

This proposal is made at a time of everything that is happening. It has never happened that the crime of corruption was attacked with such force. I think it is time for the people to review and evaluate this constitutional amendment to overcome the 30-year penalty as the maximum penalty for any crime, even if there is an accumulation of crimes, the maximum penalty is the same as 30 years, and that cannot be be because it is impunity. A crime is tried and others go unpunished, which is why the proposal would bring the review to avoid impunity in atrocious crimes that attack the people. The voice of the people is the voice of God. That is why it is important that it be reviewed and decided by the people.”
