The president of the Permanent Commission on Internal Policy, deputy Diosdado Cabello (PSUV/Nacional), considers that from the sanction of the Organic Law for the Defense of Essequibo new attacks by imperialism against the Venezuelan people will be generated.
He asserted that the big names in Venezuela are not in favor of the law, but of the American ExxonMobil oil company. He maintained that with its approval the defense of the national territory is vindicated. This norm, he said, is the result of the unity of the Venezuelan people on an issue as transcendental as the defense of Guayana Esequiba.
Cabello emphasized that more than ten million Venezuelans with their votes supported the policy of defense, sovereignty and self-determination of Essequibo. which in his opinion represents a demonstration of the country’s national unity: “The national soul was awakened with the law, which embodies the spirit of the people,” he said.
He added that 200 events were held during the public consultation initiated by the Permanent Commission on Internal Policy on December 6, 2023. He called for unity in defense of the entire national territory to accompany this proposal that has awakened the soul of the Venezuelans.
He recalled that the law was presented by the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, on December 6, 2023, and brought to the Plenary that same day by Deputy Diosdado Cabello, for its first discussion as a matter of regulatory urgency. He added that on January 9, their second discussion began and this Thursday, March 21, the Legislative Branch sanctioned it.
