Former VP mayor directly involved in Assassination plan against President Maduro in Maturín

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, held a press conference this Tuesday to give new details about the assassination plans against President Nicolás Maduro, unveiled last week and which would take place in Maturín, Monagas state. In addition, he refuted the accusations that seek to link the Venezuelan State with Structured Groups of Organized Crime (GEDO):

“We were able to make progress related to an action on plans whose main objective was to attack the life of the President of the Republic who was on tour in Maturín, Monagas state,” said Saab, who also explained that at the time of the arrest of Whillfer José Piña Azuaje had a cell phone seized from him and a conversation with Renzo Estibenz Flores was found with details of the conspiratorial plans.

The plan was to group with 50 military deserters in order to take a tank and provoke a coup uprising.

The prosecutor explained that Flores indicated that “Piña called him to conspire and take over a military compound, which is Fort Paramaconi, in past times they have also been targets of the military, of civilians who place themselves outside the law.”

Likewise, Saab reported that another important discovery on Whillfer’s cell phone is a WhatsApp group with 47 members, with documents containing threats; with local information to attract people.

A conversation was also found with Warner Jiménez, former mayor of Maturín by the Voluntad Popular (VP) party and who actively participates in these conspiratorial plans.

He additionally added that Jiménez is a fugitive from Venezuelan justice residing in Miami, and is being sought for the crimes of corruption and money laundering.
