Chancellor Sergei Lavrov will meet with President Maduro on February 20

As part of an official tour of the region, Russian Chancellor Sergei Lavrov will visit Cuba on February 19, Venezuela on February 20, and Brazil on February 21 and 22.

The government authority will participate in a meeting of Chancellors of the member countries of the Group of 20, in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, as announced at a press conference the spokesperson for the Russian Chancellory, María Zajárova.

During his visit to Havana, Lavrov plans to meet with the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the head of diplomacy of the Caribbean country, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. While the agenda for February 20 includes meetings with the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro; the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez; as well as conversations at the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lavrov’s trip to Caracas occurs amidst the preparations for Maduro’s visit to Russia, which was initially scheduled for the end of 2023. At the same time, as the Kremlin confirmed in January, the Venezuelan president’s visit was in the preparation phase.

Maduro’s last visit to Russia, a close ally of Venezuela, took place in September 2019.
