Venezuela rejects illicit exploration by transnational companies in Essequibo

The actions carried out in the Essequibo territory, regarding the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons, will be considered “absolutely null” by the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, reported the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Relations, Yván Gil, through his account on the X social network.

The minister published an official communiqué, in which he informs the international community and transnational companies that these actions are carried out illegally, and are contrary to International Law.

Following, the full text of the communiqué:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela informs the International Community and the transnational energy companies that have received, illicitly, from the Government of Guyana, authorizations to explore and exploit hydrocarbons in a large undelimited maritime space, that such actions are absolutely void, and contrary to Public International Law and the principles enshrined in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

For this reason, Venezuela urges all transnational private actors, formally and categorically, to avoid any incursion into said maritime space, since it constitutes a violation of their sovereign rights, their constitutional order and Public International Law.

Additionally, the Guyanese Government assumes a reckless policy of association with the United States Southern Command for the unauthorized deployment of military exercises in the area, which today constitutes the greatest threat to the peace and stability of the Caribbean region, which aggravates these actions and generates important risks that must be dissipated only through direct dialogue between the parties.

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, faithful to its doctrine of peace, insists before the Government of Guyana, the establishment of a direct dialogue, which allows finding ways to reestablish International Law, violated with the granting of oil licenses in a maritime space not delimited to date and announces to the International Community that it will continue with its diplomatic efforts, in the defense of its historical rights.
