Venezuela rejects Caricom’s position on dispute with Guyana

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejected this Saturday a statement from the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) which “aims to manipulate the reality of the arguments presented by the Venezuelan State” regarding territorial integrity.

Through a statement – published by the Chancellory – Venezuela warns that with Caricom’s position “an attempt is made to deceive public opinion by echoing the false statements created by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the detriment of the prestige of Caricom.”

In the text, Venezuela denounces the American ExxonMobil company “for having co-opted the ruling elite of Guyana in order to plunder the region’s natural resources.”

Likewise, it expresses its willingness to participate in a high-level meeting, promoted by CARICOM, in order to continue with the negotiations provided for in the 1966 Geneva Agreement.

Following, the full text of the Communiqué:

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the statement from the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), published with premeditation, nocturnality and treachery, during the early hours of September 23, 2023, which manipulates the reality of the arguments presented by the State Venezuelan in fair and necessary defense of its security and territorial integrity.

In this way, an attempt is made to deceive public opinion by echoing the false statements created by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the detriment of the prestige of Caricom.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela denounces that the American company ExxonMobil has co-opted the ruling elite of Guyana in order to plunder the natural resources of the region, and is responsible for the emerging disturbances in the Caribbean by exacerbating differences between States by territory not delimited.

This is accompanied by a growing US military presence in the region, due to the fact that the Southern Command has used the territory in controversy as an enclave to deepen plans for aggression against Venezuela, a fact verifiable through hostile statements and recurring naval exercises and military.

Venezuela strongly reiterates that the 1966 Geneva Agreement is the only valid legal instrument duly deposited in the United Nations, which outlines a route for the resolution of the territorial controversy, through means of political negotiation.

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, adhering to the mutual respect and dialogue that characterizes our region, expresses its full willingness to participate in a high-level meeting, promoted by CARICOM, where the Heads of State and Ministers of Foreign Relations of both Venezuela and Guyana, in order to continue with the negotiations provided for in the Geneva Agreement of 1966, in a climate of peace, friendship and mutual respect.”
