Mourning in the culture and arts of Venezuela: Maestro Aquiles Báez dies in Germany

The outstanding guitarist, composer and musician Aquiles Báez, died in Germany, at the age of 58, during the development of his tour through Europe, as confirmed on Monday the Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas.

In a message posted on his account on the Twitter social network, @ VillegasPoljak Villegas specified that Maestro Aquiles Báez was on tour in Europe and “this morning they found him inert where he was staying in the German city of Aachen”.

In this regard, Minister Ernesto Villegas emphasized that “guitarist Aquiles Báez leaves an indelible mark on the Venezuelan musical heritage.”

Villegas announced that the Venezuelan authorities are in contact with the country’s ambassador to Germany, Orlando Maniglia, “in order to cooperate with everything necessary in this difficult circumstance.”

Similarly, he sent a message of condolences to the daughter and other relatives of guitarist Aquiles Báez.

European Tour:

The renowned Venezuelan artist and musician Aquiles Báez had embarked on a tour that would take him through Spain, Switzerland, France, Germany and Portugal, but on his way through Aachen (Germany) he died this Monday.

Aquiles Báez was born in Caracas on March 1, 1964 and was an outstanding Venezuelan musician characterized by addressing Caribbean and Latin American rhythms and other musical genres.

His work “can be listed in 17 albums with his name, more than 200 recordings with other artists”, reads on his digital portal, where he also highlights his participation in concerts with Paquito D’Rivera, John Patitucci, Simón Díaz, Ilan Chester, Fareed Haque, Dawn Upshaw, Richard Bona, Ed Friedman, among other artists.

During his musical career he explored different genres such as traditional Venezuelan music, jazz, bossa nova, among many others, which gave a particular richness and complexity to the sound of his compositions.

His talent has transcended the entire world, making him an important reference in music in Venezuela and Latin America.
