Russia and Venezuela reiterate commitment to expand cooperation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone meeting on Monday with the new Venezuelan Chancellor, Carlos Faría, where they ratified the willingness to deepen bilateral cooperation:

“The parties analyzed current issues on the bilateral agenda, confirmed their mutual willingness to continue expanding Russian-Venezuelan cooperation in the international arena based on the aspiration to build a fairer world order and guarantee peace and security”, assured the Russian Chancellory.

Russia and Venezuela have strengthened their relations in recent years in strategic areas such as the oil sector, education, security, food, among others.

The meeting between the ministers takes place hours after the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, appointed Carlos Faría as the new Chancellor, and where his main mission is to expand Venezuela’s diplomatic agenda based on a multicentric and multipolar world.

Faría, who served as Venezuela’s ambassador in Moscow, arrives at the Foreign Relations portfolio replacing Félix Plasencia.
