30 Venezuelans honored in National Awards for Science, Technology and Innovation 2021

In a ceremony held at the Teresa Carreño Theater, President Nicolás Maduro acknowledged the work of 30 outstanding Venezuelan scientists, technologists and innovators from all across the country who were honored with the National Awards for Science, Technology and Innovation.

Among the main winners are the chemistry laboratory of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research, IVIC; in the Best Scientific Work mention, Margaret Gutiérrez was awarded; in the Exact Sciences mention, Miguel Fernández; Nancy Escalante received the award for Social Sciences, while Raúl Casal, received the honorable mention and Víctor Hernández, self-taught mention.

“We have to make a greater effort so that our country and the world know that in Venezuela science is done at the highest level and with one objective: to achieve the greatest social happiness of a people and the search for solutions for our people,” emphasized the Head of state.

In this year’s edition, the jury evaluated between 200 applicants, out of a total of 1,000 projects related to the social and economic life of the country, and selected 165 projects in strategic areas.

Among the entities with the highest applications are Miranda (28), Distrito Capital (27), Zulia (15), Aragua (14) and Mérida (13).

It is worth remembering that these awards were created in 2001 by Commander Hugo Chávez, with the aim of promoting the development of science, its disciplines and strategic areas for the benefit of the people.

President Maduro announced that together with the government team, he is preparing management projects so that 2022 is “the year of consolidation of the country’s growth, of the comprehensive recovery of our nation.”
