The Minister of People’s Power for Water Care, G / D Rodolfo Marco Torres, and the head of the Regional Delegation for Caracas of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Arnaud de Baecquet, signed this Monday, November 29, the renewal of the cooperation agreement on drinking water and sanitation for the 2021-2023 term, with the aim of providing support to the most needy population in the areas of drinking water and sanitation, guaranteeing care for the most vulnerable communities.

The meeting, which took place in the Social Heroes Hall of the Yellow House (Seat of the Chancellory) in Caracas, was attended by the director of Cooperation with United Nations Agencies, Sergio Barazarte; ICRC Regional Director for the Americas, Sophie Orr; WASH coordinator Sergio Gelli, and legal consultants Rudolf White and Arturo Ruiz.

Thanks to the cooperation between MinAguas (Water Ministry) and the ICRC, to date, seven projects have been completed to improve the National Water System, three are also under execution and four are in the bidding process in states such as: Apure, Bolívar, Caracas, Miranda and Táchira.

The objective of this renewal is to continue in a second phase of work framed in the Map of Territorial Solutions of the water system, to consolidate the service of drinking water and sewage in prioritized sectors of the country. These tasks are expected to be carried out together with the Organized People’s Power, through the Technical Water Boards and the Water People’s Power Brigades, in order to advance towards a sovereign and sustainable management model.
