There are those who were interested in the failure of the CELAC Summit. The Summit has been a total success, of union, of consensus, of agreements”, emphasized the Venezuelan head of state who added that “Mexico has shown that it can bring us all together in peace”.

From the “Benito Juárez” International Airport, in Mexico City, he explained that the respectful debate led to consensus and key agreements of regional interest in the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Disaster Fund and Climate Change.

Pro Tempore Presidency will evaluate the creation of the General Secretariat:

Regarding the proposal submitted by Venezuela on the creation of the General Secretariat of CELAC, he announced that it will be evaluated by the Pro Tempore Presidency of the organization, currently in charge of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador:

It will be up to López Obrador to assess it, I think it is a useful proposal because with a General Secretariat of CELAC it will be something else, we are beginning a new stage (…) Where a Secretary General that is strong, powerful and of consense begins to travel the countries and promote all proposals”, explained President Nicolás Maduro.

During his intervention at the 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government, President Maduro also proposed the reactivation of the Councils of Ministers to comprehensively address strategic areas related to the economy, management of the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.

Support for dialogue:

Upon beginning his return to Venezuela from Mexico City, Maduro thanked the people and the government of the Aztec nation for their absolute support for the political dialogue between the National Government and the Unitary Platform, to achieve agreements for peace and national stability.

He also highlighted the pronouncement of the member states against the illegal unilateral coercive actions imposed on sovereign nations as a mechanism of extraterritorial pressure.

Finally, he extended his congratulations to the Government of Mexico for its high-level diplomatic capacity to bring together again more than 30 leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean, under the principles of sovereignty, self-determination and mutual respect.
