Venezuela rejects unsubstantiated claims in report by the High Commissioner for Human Rights

Venezuela rejected on Monday the report published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (HR), of the United Nations (UN), considering that it spreads false assertions and lacks foundation.

The Chancellor of the Republic, Felix Plasencia, through his account on the Twitter social network @PlasenciaFelix, published an official communiqué in which Venezuela expresses its rejection of the report issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, which “reproduces methodological flaws in previous documents” and contains “false assertions”:

“Venezuela recriminates methodological flaws and unfounded assertions in the report published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights”, states the message.

“It is regrettable that the aforementioned report reproduces the methodological flaws present in the Office’s previous documents and incorporates unsubstantiated assertions, which have not been duly verified with the State authorities, as required by its own work methodology”, says part of the communiqué.

It is also highlighted that Bachelet’s report reaffirms the devastating effects of the coercive measures imposed by Washington on Venezuela since 2014. Among them, the 99% decrease in national income, “and the existence of elements to consider that said measures imply the commission of crimes against humanity”.

The statement indicates that Venezuela will continue to cooperate with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and that is why the renewal of the Letter of Understanding between both parties was agreed for a period of one year, which contemplates the increase of the presence of Office officials in the country.

Finally, Venezuela ratifies its commitment to guarantee human rights “as the only way to achieve peace and tranquility for the Venezuelan people.”
