President Nicolás Maduro announces reactivation of National Sports Games from December

The Constitutional President of the Republic Nicolás Maduro announced the reactivation of the National Sports Games as of next December.

This was announced during the reception ceremony for the athletes who were members of the Venezuelan team, who obtained an outstanding participation, the best performance of Venezuela in the Olympic games, on their return to the country.

After traveling by caravan from the Simón Bolívar Airport in Maiquetía (La Guaira state), through the Caracas-La Guaira highway and the Sucre avenue in Catia (Caracas), receiving the massive and warm greeting from the Venezuelan people, the athletes arrived at Miraflores Palace where they held a special meeting with the National President.

In the Ayacucho Hall of the government palace, and accompanied by the members of the Executive Cabinet, the Head of State imposed the Francisco de Miranda Award in its different classes on medalists Julio Mayora, Keydomar Vallenilla and Claudimar Garcés, while the Head of State received from the hands of the Venezuelan Olympic delegation that represented us in Tokyo 2020, the undefeated National Pavilion.

Paris 2024 Olympic dream:

In this context, President Nicolás Maduro instructed the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, to convene the Venezuelan athletes, coaches and sports glories to work tables, to present the Paris 2024 Olympic Dream Plan within a period of no more than 15 days:

“In a period of 30 days we should already know who are the Olympic promises that will be heading to Paris 2024, and (we all must) give them all the psychological, financial, training, technical, logistical and scientific support”, he instructed.

Similarly, the Head of State expressed on behalf of the Venezuelan people his appreciation to the athletes, coaches and leaders who, despite the pandemic and the sanctions, “arrived in Tokyo, competed and came with Venezuela’s best results in the history of the Olympic Games”.

Mervin Maldonado, Minister of People’s Power for Youth and Sports, highlighted that the participation of Venezuelan athletes was impeccable: “We have been participating for 73 years in the Olympic games, in 2016 we had the best results with two silver medals, and from there it began the Tokyo 2020 route and today we see the results”, he said.

“43 athletes participated in 18 sports disciplines accompanied by 28 coaches, adding the technical team and doctors it sums 114 Venezuelans”, he said, while adding that they participated in 13 days of competition and today they have the honor to say that this has been the best performance ever”, he explained.

Julio Mayora, Olympic runner-up in weightlifting, thanked the support of the national government and the federations in training him, while Vallenilla assured that this triumph should be an example for the generation of athletes that are trained in the country.

Sports massification:

President Maduro instructed three lines of massification for athletes, expand support for sports federations, promote the Mission Barrio Adentro Sports and mass sports in schools, high schools and universities.

He added that it is necessary to fix and improve the country’s sports facilities, give international support to the Venezuelan coach system and activate a special scholarship and social assistance plan for all athletes in the country.

He added that it is necessary to activate a specialized system to detect the best sports talents throughout the country.
