Venezuela greeted UN decision on Ambassador Alex Saab

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela welcomed the decision of the United Nations Human Rights Committee, which asked the Republic of Cape Verde to adopt measures to guarantee the Human Rights of Ambassador Alex Saab.

The UN requested the immediate suspension of Saab’s extradition to the United States, access to adequate health and independent and specialized medical care.

Through a communiqué, Venezuela also stated that the UN decision confirms that the diplomat’s human rights were violated, irreparable damage to his health and physical integrity could have been caused, and that his arrest and detention they are arbitrary.

The UN request coincides with the ruling of the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States, which ordered the immediate release of Alex Saab.

Venezuela reiterates its call to Cape Verde to release the diplomat and ratifies the provision for dialogue on the basis of respect for Human Rights and international law.
