President Maduro: Syria gave a gigantic message of peace to the world

President Nicolas Maduro made this Sunday a public acknowledgement to the “gigantic message of peace” given by the Syrian Arab people during the recent elections in which his counterpart Bashar al-Assad was re-elected, with 95.1% of the votes.

“The Syrian people have the right to peace, to reconstruction, to happiness, to integral recovery. I want to send our message of admiration to the Syrian Arab people for this impeccable, resounding election day. The enemies of peace were shattered with this tremendous participation in the elections”, emphasized the Venezuelan Head of State.

In this regard, he reaffirmed that the result of the presidential elections in Syria constitutes a turning point in the struggle of the Syrian people who have resisted maneuvers of war and destruction to wipe them out:

“The whole world, especially the Arab world, must support the Syrian people in their desire for peace, in their sovereign manifestations of democracy, freedom and their right to comprehensive development. I send my public congratulations to Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian Arab people for the gigantic example they have set for the world”, he said.

He concluded that the peoples of the world must unite “to fight for independence, for the right to development, for the right to life, for the right to a better world, multi-centric and pluri-polar, to a world without imperialism and without wars”, he added.

The president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, who will assume his fourth term of government after the elections of 2000, 2007 and 2014, obtained 13,540,860 votes in the elections held last Wednesday, May 26.
