Chancellor Arreaza urges AFP to review its information treatment regarding Venezuela

This Sunday, the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, shared, through a message on his official Twitter account @jaarreaza, a letter sent on February 10 to the director of the Agence France-Presse news agency (AFP), Fabrice Fries, with observations on its editorial line regarding the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

In this sense, Chancellor Arreaza reported that on this occasion, unlike what happened with the German media network Deutsche Welle (DW), a serious and respectful response was obtained from the Paris-based media, in which they acknowledge some facts and they indicate that they will speak with their team to review the contrast of the information, according to a press release from the Chancellory.

Likewise, it specified that in the letter sent on February 10, the Venezuelan Minister denounced that AFP’s informative approach to Venezuela “is closer to political propaganda and media attack than to the full journalistic exercise embodied in his own deontological letter ».

This conclusion emerged from the balance and evaluation of a series of reports broadcast at the beginning of the year that reflect an unbalanced coverage of the events. “The treatment of the agency reflects a mixture of misinformation, informational imbalance, failures in handling the context, generalizations and stereotyping.”

For this reason, Chancellor Arreaza called for a thorough review of all the information to prevent the image of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from being affected and the right of Venezuelans to responsible and truthful information from being violated.
