Venezuela qualifies as biased report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and ratifies constructive exchange with her office

The permanent representative of Venezuela to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, Jorge Valero, described the updated report presented by the High Commissioner for Human Rights (HR), Michelle Bachelet, as biased, and ratifies the constructive exchange of information with his office and the Bolivarian Government for the preservation, cooperation and dialogue, in order to carry out this Friday the 45th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

The oral update of the high commissioner was promoted by a small group of members of this Council, who maintain bulky files of human rights violations. This oral presentation has obvious methodological flaws and biased information that increases the media campaign against Venezuela ”.

He added that “those who supported this hostile initiative, instead of criticizing Venezuelan democracy should be concerned about the serious and invasive violations of human rights that are committed daily in the countries of our region such as Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Paraguay and Canada”.

The permanent representative of Venezuela to the UN Human Rights Council indicated that the team of the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Venezuela receives the support of all the competent bodies of the State, which is the basis for the international rights established in the Charter of the United Nations as respect for the sovereignty of the States: “Venezuela has had to fight and defeat various terrorist and armed actions against the democratic institutions sponsored and financed from abroad. We reiterate our country’s commitment to the protection of Human Rights and to continue cooperating with the Council”.

He reaffirmed the firm rejection of the imposition of resolutions against sovereign countries in the UN Human Rights Council since these hostile initiatives are designed to artificially maximize the challenges that any place in the world faces in the field of Human Rights, which in his opinion distorts the truth of what is really happening on the ground.

The promotion and protection of human rights must be based on the principles of cooperation and dialogue, genuine foundations of the work of this Council in accordance with resolution 60251 of the UN General Assembly. Misrepresenting the truth is a practice that violates the fundamental pillars of multilateralism and the functioning of the Council enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and in the pertinent resolutions of the General Assembly ”, he highlighted.

Valero stated that the work of this Council should be aimed at guaranteeing universality, objectivity and non-selectivity in the examination of human rights issues and eliminating the application of undue politicization of the actions of the countries.
