UN’s Office for Human Rights works directly with bodies of the country’s justice system

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, highlighted this Sunday that in Venezuela there is an Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (HR) of the United Nations that is in charge of visiting the police forces and working directly with the bodies of the country’s Justice System.

During an exclusive interview in the “Aqui con Ernesto” (Here with Ernesto) program conducted by the journalist and Minister of People’s Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, stressed that the aforementioned organization requests reports and is acknowledged, by Commissioner Michelle Bachelet herself, the work of the Public Ministry, directly, in the imputation and prosecution of cases of Human Rights violations.

The prosecutor made the comment in reference to the report prepared by an ad hoc commission of alleged “human rights experts” paid for by the Lima Group, in which Venezuela is accused of committing crimes against humanity and human rights violations.

He stressed that in Venezuela it is not possible to speak of crimes against humanity because there are no extermination groups nor any social activists have been attacked, “unlike what happens in Colombia, where massacres and systematic violations have been generated”.
