Maduro calls for unity to commemorate 20 years of Hugo Chávez’s great electoral victory

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, called on Thursday for national unity, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the great electoral victory of Commander Hugo Chávez, who was ratified on July 30, 1999 as President of the Nation, with the new norms established in the Magna Carta:

“I call for the union, to the base of all political parties, of all social movements. Let’s not allow divisionism trying to get poison in it. I call for the union of our people, for the glories lived, for the glories to live”, said the Venezuelan head of state.

From Miraflores Palace, in Caracas; the National President recalled the great electoral victory, where the new president of the Republic, the deputies of the new National Assembly – already converted into unicameral – were elected after the approval of the new Constitution, approved by the people in 1999.

“20 years, to build a free, independent and sovereign Homeland, to have a Homeland, and to advance on all fronts of the construction of socialism, including this entire stage in which they have brought to us guarimbas (riots), criminal attacks, attempted assassination, mercenary incursions, economic war, criminal sanctions”, he stressed.

In this sense, he highlighted the moral and political strength of the Bolivarian Revolution, in the face of adversity and attacks by the imperial axes, to maintain the union of the people and all the political forces of the country.

In this regard, he also compared the situation that Venezuela experienced in 2017, during the guarimbas orchestrated by the Venezuelan right wing, and supported by the newcomer to the United States (US) White House, Donald Trump.

At that time – as the Venezuelan president detailed -, the country was submerged in an attempt of civil war, promoted by the right wing, where people were murdered, more than 19 people were burned alive – just for thinking differently -, as well as that more than 600 units of metrobuses, nurseries and government institutions were burned.

In order to guarantee the peace of the Republic, President Nicolás Maduro called – 17 years after the great victory of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution – for a new National Constituent Assembly (ANC), which was also intended to guarantee the stability of the country.

“The CNE (National Electoral Council) set the date. July 30. 17 years later, and our historic people went to the streets and wrote the pages of dignity”, he sentenced.
