4 new community cases and 70 imported cases were reported this Sunday in Venezuela

The Sectoral Vice President and Minister for Communication, Tourism and Culture, Jorge Rodríguez, reported the appearance of 4 new cases of community transmission of Covid 19, and 70 imported cases in the country.

From Miraflores Palace, during the meeting with the Presidential Commission for the prevention and combat of Covid-19, Rodríguez detailed that 50 of the new imported cases are people who came from Colombia, 9 coming from Brazil, and 11 from contact with travelers.

The Sectoral Vice President announced that 3 of the 4 people who were detected with the community-transmitted virus are from the Capital District, and 1 from Trujillo state.

The first case is a 31-year-old woman, a nurse from the Gato Negro sector of Catia, in the Sucre parish of Caracas; a 36-year-old man, a doctor from Catia, Ciudad Caribia sector; Another 66-year-old lady from the Pedro Camejo sector of the El Recreo parish in Caracas, infected in a Mission Barrio Adentro module where she was stationed; and a 35-year-old citizen from Trujillo state, a housewife. It is important to note that all infected people have been hospitalized.

Rodríguez highlighted that an 84% of Venezuela’s cases are imported.

A new deceased was reported ,and it is a 73-year-old woman from the Miranda municipality of Falcón state, a merchant by profession who got infected by contact with another merchant from the Las Pulgas market of Maracaibo, Zulia state.

This citizen was currently with a condition complicated by type 2 diabetes and hypertensive heart disease. On June 7 her respiratory condition worsened and she was admitted to intensive care at the Alfredo Manrique University Hospital in Coro, capital city of Falcon state, but she did not perform well despite the treatments received, and therefore Rodríguez transmitted his words of condolence and solidarity to her relatives.

On the other hand, he detailed that 1,784 patients are currently asymptomatic, 325 with mild respiratory failure, 5 with moderate respiratory failure and 4 patients admitted to intensive care for presenting acute respiratory failure.

Regarding imported cases, Rodríguez indicated that are included 10 new cases from the Pemón community of the Gran Sabana, in Bolívar state, due to the arrival of compatriots who are entering the territory through the border from Brazil.

The minister reported that up to date have already been registered 25 deceased people.

He also pointed out that 2,864 of all the Covid-19 cases registered by Venezuela are imported, mostly from Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Chile: «These countries account for 97% of all deaths in South America», he warned.

He revealed that more than 59,000 Venezuelans have entered through the border areas, of which 1,981 are positive Covid-19 cases.
