Venezuela confirms 159 positive coronavirus cases and one death

The Minister for Communication and Information, Jorge Rodríguez, confirmed this Tuesday 159 new Covid-19 coronavirus positive cases, which brings the total number of infected by the outbreak in the country to 2,632.

From Miraflores Palace, Rodríguez explained that one of the cases is by community transmission, 149 imported cases and nine cases by contact with an international traveler.

Regarding the imported cases, Rodríguez indicated that 147 are Venezuelans who entered the country through the border with Colombia.

In this sense, he pointed out that the number of infected in Venezuela coming from Colombia, shows that underreporting is evident in the neighboring New Granadean nation.

Referring to the situation registered in South America, the minister explained that Brazil ranks first among the countries most affected by the pandemic on a global scale; with 60% of all cases registered in the region.

«Brazil, only Brazil by itself, accounts for 60% of all Covid-19 cases in South America, and is our neighbor, and this will only get worse. In addition, Brazil accounts for 72.3% of all deaths in South America. Venezuela is in last place with 0.04% deaths”, he stressed.

Likewise, he reported on the death of one person due to the outbreak, which brings the death toll from Covid-19 to 23.

The patient who died, as detailed Rodríguez; corresponds to “one of the first cases, a traveler from Spain, the fifth case that was reported in Venezuela, it was a patient who evolved awkwardly”.

In this regard, the National Government sent its solidarity to the entire family of the patient.
