Ministry for Defense acknowledges work of troops who thwarted Operation Gideon

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López decorated this Tuesday the members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) who participated in the frustration of the so-called Operation Gideon, a terrorist action carried out on May 3 by a group of mercenaries coming from Colombia.

The intention of the incursion, sponsored by the United States government through the North American Office of Drug Administration and Control (DEA), was to enter paramilitaries and FANB deserters through La Guaira state in order to, among other violent actions, assassinating President Nicolás Maduro, according to the evidences presented by the Venezuelan Executive.

“On behalf of the President, of the people: Congratulations. The Venezuelan people have seen you with weapons chasing and confronting traitors who are moved by capital, the behavior of mercenaries is historical”, said Padrino.

The minister pointed out that the troops carried out a military action in accordance with the military corps, sought them out, arrested them and put them under the order of justice, as he said in an act at Fort Tiuna.

In addition, he highlighted the responsibility of the deputy in contempt of the National Assembly (AN), Juan Guaidó, in the failed raid that was neutralized in Macuto; while another group of mercenaries were captured in Chuao, Aragua state.

“Are so much mercenaries those who came, as is the geopolitical agent who handles technical, legal and financial aspects, the one who signed the contract”, he noted, and reiterated the FANB is on the right side in defense of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He added that the mercenaries were achieved with a more united FANB, united with the people, with morals and with patriotism on the surface, “they also met a humble people on the coast,” he stressed.
