Maduro calls on world governments to promote cultural diversity

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, urged on Thursday to the governments of the world to acknowledge cultural diversity as the engine for the construction of the new humanity:

“Cultural diversity must be seen by the governments of the world as an engine for the construction of the new humanity of Peace, respect and union, which leads us to the reunion with the peoples. Happy World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development!” wrote the Head of State on the Twitter social network.

The Unesco Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity was approved in 2001 and, subsequently, the United Nations General Assembly declared May 21 as World Cultural Diversity Day for Dialogue and Development, through its resolution 57/249 of December 2002.

Cultural diversity is a source of renewal of ideas and societies that allows us to open ourselves to others and to conceive new ways of thinking. This diversity is an opportunity for peace and sustainable development, says the website of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
