12 new cases for a total of 357 Covid-19 infections in Venezuela

The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reported that 12 new cases have been detected today, for a total of 357 Coronavirus infections in Venezuela.

This was announced this Sunday afternoon by the vice president from Miraflores Palace, and detailed that 2 cases were detected in Zulia, 1 in Falcón, 3 in Aragua, 1 in La Guaira, 1 in Miranda, 1 in Anzoátegui and 3 in Nueva Esparta states, the latter entity registering the highest number of infected.

Likewise, she specified that 102 patients are asymptomatic and represent a higher risk of contagion, and thus she insisted on the need to maintain protective measures, such as the use of masks.

She indicated that 73 patients have a mild respiratory condition, 3 have a moderate respiratory condition and there is a person in serious condition who is in intensive care.

The figure of 10 deceased is maintained, and a 44.3% recovery is reported. The vice president pointed out that Venezuela has carried out 482,953 tests, which represents 16,098 tests per million inhabitant, placing our country at the forefront of the continent.

She added that the Venezuelan health authorities are applying all the epidemiological protocols recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to nationals who are returning to the country.

Therefore, when a person enters the territory, a rapid screening test is done. In the case of Táchira state, the compatriots remain five days in a health center and before continuing the trip to their destination state, they undergo another test. Upon arrival at their destination, a new screening should be performed.

Cases detected in the last 24 hours:

The Vice President reported that to date, 25,861 Venezuelans have returned, mainly from Colombia, and so far 18 cases of coronavirus have been detected with the PCR test.

In detailing the new 12 cases, she pointed out that a 26-year-old woman who showed symptoms entered Táchira state through the Simón Bolívar Bridge and was transferred to an Integral Diagnostic Center (CDI) in Coro, Falcón state.

The second case corresponds to a 27-year-old woman from La Guaira, who entered Venezuela through Táchira state, coming from Colombia. Upon arriving at the care post in Los Caracas, she tested positive, but she is asymptomatic, which is why she is in a sentinel hospital.

The third case is a 20-year-old man residing in Anzoátegui state. He was studying in Uruguay and arrived on a flight to Venezuela on April 20. He was treated at the Los Caracas post, in La Guaira states, where he tested negative. But upon reaching Anzoátegui state, the PCR test came out positive.

The fourth case corresponds to a 50-year-old woman, a collaborating nurse of the Cuban medical mission. She resides in Miranda state and is asymptomatic. This is a case of community transmission.

The vice president referred to the case of a 42-year-old man who had contact with a relative who works in the Nueva Esparta Coast Guard command, where 44 positive cases have been registered to date. He explained that this focus was derived from the Pedro González Baseball Academy.

On the list of new infections is a 12-year-old boy, a native of Bolívar state, but an athlete from a Nueva Esparta baseball school.

Another case is also in Nueva Esparta state, a 28-year-old man, an officer of the Coastal Guard.

Likewise, three cases were found in Aragua state, located within a family. He specified that those affected are a 45-year-old woman, her 49-year-old brother and a 52-year-old relative, who are street vendors on the Autopista Regional del Centro (Center Regional Highway). These people reside together in a house, where six families live.

Finally, she indicated that a Wayúu (indigenous) couple came from Colombia and entered Zulia state, testing positive.
