Rafael Correa: Venezuela is the country that has best managed the pandemic in Latin America

This Friday, the former president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, said that Venezuela is the Latin American country that has best managed the Covid-19 pandemic.

During a special connection through the International Communication Brigades of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the leader stated that Venezuela has had social discipline, it has Barrio Adentro (Health Mission) and a health system: “the health of Venezuelans has been privileged before the economy, that’s why the facts speak for themselves”.

In this sense, he asserted that the urgent thing is to survive and save lives: “There will be a different world and it will be better, this crisis has proved us right: the importance of the State and putting values in their right place, revaluing what is truly important (… ) We must learn from this painful experience. There is coordination and mutual respect because we are in a hyperdependent world”, he said.

He qualified as criminal the actions taken by right-wing governments in the face of the pandemic, and mentioned that the worst is yet to come, “and an economic catastrophe is coming too”.

Correa recalled that during the Citizen Revolution in Ecuador, health personnel was increased and with a lot of effort they got to have 24,000 beds, “but this year they reduced the health system and ended the agreement with Cuba”.

Likewise, he said that the catastrophe Ecuador is experiencing is the fault of the Government. “When the videos of the corpses were released, they called it fake news, until later they decided to tell the truth”, he said.
