Decreed curfew in municipalities bordering Colombia in the face of interventionist threats

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, ordered a curfew in the border municipalities between Táchira and Colombia, in the face of threats of intervention by mercenaries and paramilitaries, amidst the situation of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid- 19).

This was reported by the Minister for Communication and Information, Jorge Rodríguez, who detailed that the curfew will take effect in the municipalities of Simón Bolívar and Ureña from Monday night at 20:00 hs until 10:00 the morning.

In the same way, he stressed that from this Tuesday the curfew will take effect from the 16:00 hs until 10:00 in the morning.

Minister Jorge Rodríguez pointed out that this measure is taken after the capture of three paramilitaries and a mercenary who tried to enter the country during the journey that took place this weekend to receive the nationals who were in other nations.

“Today we captured three paramilitaries and a mercenary who trained in one of the reported camps in Riohacha, and tried to enter through San Antonio del Táchira, trying to sneak in with the people who are entering the country”, warned Rodríguez from the Presidential Command Post. of Miraflores Palace, in Caracas.

He pointed out that these actions are perpetrated from Colombia, which is “taking advantage of the generosity of Venezuela” to attend the nationals during the pandemic, and thus try to “sneak up on paramilitaries, deserters, mercenaries who come to sow violence in Venezuela”.

On repeated occasions, the National Government has denounced Colombia’s attempt to insert mercenaries and paramilitaries into the country to sow anxiety and violence in the nation, in order to overthrow the government of President Nicolás Maduro.

The latest violent and armed plan was unveiled in late March, orchestrated by former Venezuelan military man Cliver Alcalá Cordones, who – with the support of the United States, Colombia, and right-wing sectors – intended to attack the country and selectively assassinate senior officials Venezuelans, including the Venezuelan head of state.
