Venezuela and the UN fine-tune joint special plan to combat pandemic

Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza reported on Monday that he held a meeting with representatives of the United Nations System (UN) in the country, to fine-tune the details of the joint special plan to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We held a fruitful meeting with representatives of the United Nations System in the country, to fine-tune work plans in the framework of the special cooperation that we prepared together with the UN in the fight against Covid-19,” he wrote in a message in the Twitter social network.

Last Thursday, March 19, the United Nations System sent a document to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, in which he ratifies and supports the actions that his Government has taken in Venezuela to combat the coronavirus through social quarantine.

The text indicates that the international organization will support the social and economic consequences of the coronavirus, for which they have already undertaken measures in areas such as health, water, sanitation and hygiene; with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

He adds that the World Health Organization (WHO) and Unicef are providing kits for diagnosis and support in monitoring the epidemiological situation in the country.

Earlier, the Sectoral Vice President for Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, explained that, would President Maduro had not decreed the social and collective quarantine on March 15, to date Venezuela would report “a little more than 2,000 cases and today about 3,000 cases, and in four days about 6,000 cases of Covid-19”.

In this sense, he stressed the importance of Venezuelans complying with social distancing and taking the proper hygiene measures, such as hand washing and disinfection of objects.

Up to date, the Venezuelan health authorities report a total of 77 cases.
