Venezuela rejects prohibition of entry to Peru of magistrates of the TSJ

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, through a statement released on Wednesday, rejected the prohibition of entry to Peruvian territory of two magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), who were to represent the Venezuelan nation at the Second Meeting Preparatory of the 20th Ibero-American Judicial Summit.
Following, the full Communiqué:
“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its rejection before the retention and prohibition of entry to Peruvian territory of two Magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice, by the immigration authorities of that country, on October 1, 2019.
In this regard, it is necessary to inform that the Magistrates arrived in the city of Lima to represent the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela at the 2nd Preparatory Meeting of the “20th Ibero-American Judicial Summit”, to be held from October 02 to 04 in the Republic of Peru . However, upon the arrival of the officials, they were denied entry and subsequently forced to return to Venezuela.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the outrage caused to Venezuelan officials, denying them entry into Peruvian territory, under the arguments of “Migration restrictions ordered by the government of Peru”, in flagrant violation of their obligations as host country, as well as of the international conventions celebrated and ratified by both nations.
The unilateral decision of the Peruvian government in denying the entry of Venezuelan officials not only represents an outrage to the Magistrates but also attentive to the values of multilateralism and international cooperation, foundations of the Charter of the United Nations.
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urges the Peruvian authorities to prevent events like this from happening again, and to adhere to International Law as a rule that governs the relations of two sovereign states”.
