The Minister for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace, Nestor Reverol, reported on Wednesday that have been disabled 12,921 firearms. He also delivered 1,000 armaments to the Bolivarian National Police (PNB):
“We are rendering useless the amount of 12,921 firearms, and we are reaffirming our commitment to the voluntary and forced disarmament”, said Reverol, in a broadcast by Venezolana de Television (VTV).
Since the installment of the National Disarmament Plan, implemented since 2003, the Bolivarian Government has achieved the destruction of 483,317 firearms.
Minister Reverol announced that, by September, 32,194 armaments will be destroyed. “In this way we ensure that weapons do not return to the hands of crime”, he emphasized.
During his statements, he also noted that were delivered 1,000 firearms to PNB officials: “These weapons were seized from crime and, through the Maintenance System of the General Directorate of Weapons and Explosives, we have fully recovered them. Of course, with the support of the Public Ministry, the Supreme Court of Justice and CICPC, they have done the necessary expertise”, explained Reverol.
He stressed that this is part of the policies to strengthen disarmament for the peace of the nation, despite the aggressions that the United States has brought against the country.
