The African Union (AU) expressed its support for Nicolás Maduro, as the legitimate president-elect of Venezuela, a country that is going through a growing political crisis.
“The African Union vice-president, Thomas Kwesi Quartey, sent a message of solidarity to the people of Venezuela and support for the constitutional president Nicolás Maduro”, wrote the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a message on its Twitter account.
The AU, a political bloc of 55 African states, was established on May 26, 2001 in Addis Ababa and began operations on July 9, 2002 in Durban (South Africa) to replace the Organization for African Unity (OAU).
The African Union sent its message of solidarity with the Government of Maduro through the Venezuelan ambassador in Ethiopia, Modesto Ruiz, says the note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the South American country.
Marchesin Mali, Tunisia and Namibia, in support of the Venezuelan Government :
The Government of Caracas continues to receive expressions of solidarity in the face of opposition coup plans, led by Juan Guaidó, head of the National Assembly (AN) of the Bolivarian Republic (in contempt since 2016), who enjoys US support, and several of its allies.
In this context, on Wednesday were held demonstrations in the African countries of Mali, Tunisia, and Namibia, in favor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the face of external aggression.
In addition to expressing support for Nicolás Maduro to confront Guaidó’s attempts to enter Miraflores Palace with the permission of the US, the African protesters denounced “the repetitive and savage attempts at a coup d’état, which is plotting the American imperialism “in Venezuela.
Venezuela has been living turbulent days since January 23, when Guaidó proclaimed himself as interim president of the country, despite Maduro’s second term starting on January 10, after being elected at the polls on May 20, 2018.
As revealed by the US news agency The Associated Press (AP), Guaidó prepared the attempted coup d’etat in Venezuela on secret trips to the US, Colombia and Brazil, and has the personal support of the US president.
Countries such as Bolivia, Cuba, Mexico, Turkey, Russia, Iran, China and Syria have announced their full support to Venezuela in the face of the attempted coup d’etat.
